Anita Chowdry

Artist and Independent Researcher
London
I am Anita Chowdry, visual artist and polymath, with a London based practice. My work is about ART AND SCIENCE, involving concepts from mathematics, geometry and the structures and designs found in natural phenomena.
I also research colour and pigments derived from natural mineral and organic substances, and their historical use in illuminated and illustrated manuscripts.
I work in two and three dimensions. I use a variety of media and practices, including metalwork, etching, drawing and illumination techniques.
My work is generally project-based, and finished outcomes are supported by a body of underlying research and conceptual thinking.
Fractal Self-Similarity
25" X 26"
Etching
2013
Photo-etching of a flame-fractal image created on 'Apophysis' printed in Prussian blue.Number one of a set of three prints taken from etched zinc plates installed in a steel harmonograph sculpture called 'The Iron Genie". The etchings express the underlying geometries or 'blueprints' of nature.
Nature's Geometry
25" X 26"
Etching
2013
Soft-ground etching with images created by natural ferns and cypress fronds, printed in Prussian blue.Number two of a set of three prints taken from etched zinc plates installed in a steel harmonograph sculpture called 'The Iron Genie". The etchings express the underlying geometries or 'blueprints' of nature.
Harmonic Frequencies
25" X 26"
Etching
2013
Photo-etching of analogue harmonograph image scanned into Photoshop and printed in Prussian blue.Number three of a set of three prints taken from etched zinc plates installed in a steel harmonograph sculpture called 'The Iron Genie". The etchings express the underlying geometries or 'blueprints' of nature.
