GDM

Emeritus Professor of Mathematics
Université libre de Bruxelles
Brussels, Belgium
After 40 years of mathematics research and teaching social sciences students, I now pursue my 'GDM' visual artist life creating, amongst other things 'mathart' works. A domain I enjoyed to lead in & explore, as curator of « Art&Math » exhibitions in Brussels (in 2014 at the Université libre de Bruxelles, in 2016/2, in the Uccle Art House, and more recently, in a Ixelles art gallery. Another couple of exhibitions is prepared abroad for fall 2018 and spring 2019 in Marocco.
Orange, green and blue cats tangle Escherlike in isometric tessellation puzzle
30 x 50 x 1 cm
MDF laser cutouts
2018
This color isometric tessellation puzzle representing Escherlike entangled cats is here displayed with educational intentions (as is a large part of my artwork), here in relationship with the color theorems in graph theory. With this piece of work, we show a particular sort of 'tessellation puzzles' where only three colors are necessary and sufficient to color the entire plane.

(Remark for selection team : Present entry is beng prepared on behalf of professor De Meur (artist name GDM). Text of pertaining math concepts needed here will be fully inserted later).
