Glass Geometry

For the last 35 years or so I have been teaching math through making clothing (tailoring) and cloth (weaving) as well as kites (tethered aviation). This involved everything from basic arithmetic to aerodynamics, topology and Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries. Material science and color theory are areas that we will also touch upon in designing and production of a piece.
And there are so many shapes and objects to be explored!

Stained Glass
2019

This rendition of a Hyper Dodecahedron was inspired by a Zome construction of this shape. Since my work is done in stained glass I made it a challenge to express a HyperDo with surfaces, or at least some surfaces. From the Zome edges it was not difficult to fill in faces, make paper templates for cutting glass and construct this sculpture. Light is provided from an LED in the base.
