Nervous System is a generative design studio that works at the intersection of science, art, and technology. Designers Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg explore how simulations of natural processes can be used in design and coupled with digital fabrication to create one-of-a-kind, customized products.

Laplacian Forms explores the growth of dendritic crystals through a series of brass sculptures and animation. This piece is based on dendritic solidification, the growth of branching structures in supercooled fluids. Intricate forms emerge during crystal growth due to the interplay of phase change and temperature as liquid becomes solid. The five sculptures explore the parameter space of this system which is governed by two PDE’s and display various conditions of symmetry, anisotropy, and initial conditions. The sculptures are lost wax cast in brass at the artists' studio in the Catskill Mountains.
