My passion has been and is to understand patterns in the seen and invisible world. They are the foundation of the universe. I have chosen to use geometry as my language. It is clear and universal. It communicates what is known and what still lies ahead. Color is an important component of my work. It allows me to visually structure dimensional space. Line is a series of points moving in space. It represents transition and change as an expression of nature and the universe. I am fascinated by the relationship of mathematics and art and have tried to metaphorically bridge the disciplines in my creative work. My work is in the collection of major museums and universities internationally.
“Hyperbolic Space with Marking Drawings.”
This artwork is a hyperbolic geometric shape with hand-drawn
markings that are contained within the shape. Both mathematics and
the markings of hand strokes are silent, visual, abstract
languages. Mathematicians and artists refer to the beauty of a
concept in a theorem or as a form in the artwork. The hyperbolic
shape is modeled after Poincare’s disc. It has a negative
curvature and represents the concept of infinity at the
circumference. The markings are an accumulation of lines that
record the process of developing a concept. We see a numerical
relationship in shape and marking as both get smaller. We only see
a symbolic representation in both and derive a meaning of their
relationship.
