We were classmates during our time studying math and physics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who shared a strong interest in art. With Kevin pursuing his PhD in physics at the University of Bonn, Germany, and Caroline working as an artist in rural East Tennessee, we have collaborated on coding for 3D-printed models for mixed media math sculptures as a way of staying in contact across the Atlantic Ocean.

This piece evolved out of Caroline's experimental sculptures illustrating wire mesh 3D surfaces with die-cut Mylar. It consists of a multi-part 3D-printed base with posts of varying heights, onto which embroidery floss has been tied in order to create a 3D wire mesh damped surface wave.
