Statement
I've been collaborating with Ayelet Sapirstein on her "mathematical theorems" art. We've created portraits of mathematicians based on their theorems, made of different materials. The challenge to create portraits under these mathematical constraints is similar to solving mathematical problems, and allowed us to translate the beauty of solving mathematical problems into visual art.
Artworks
This portrait is of philosopher and logician John Venn using a venn diagram.
The portrait is composed of 3 translucent sheets of the primary colors: yellow, red and blue, placed on top of one another.
The face’s features are created by mixing 2 or 3 colors together and represent the intersection of these areas, like intersection of sets are represented in a venn diagram.
