My artwork involves a lot of experimentation as well as inspiration from over a decade of teaching mathematics at universities. Most recently, I have become interested in sculpture, particularly using fiber arts techniques, mathematics, and programming.
Little Quadric Lights

Wool yarn, copper wire, and string lights
2022
Little Quadric Lights was created by discretizing equations for quadric surfaces into crochet patterns. The mathematics involved calculations using level curves and arc length. The crocheted surfaces were then reinforced and stuffed with string lights using copper wire and tools.

The mathematics and patterns behind this art are joint work with Megan Martinez.
