The Advanced Geometries Department of Studio Olafur Eliasson explores
geometric, physical and natural phenomena in order to develop concepts
and ideas for works of art.
This artwork is part of a series of speculative studies
investigating expectable deformation on different polyhedrons
under homogeneous pressure. In this specific case the starting
geometry is a stellation of a Rhombic Triacontahedron. The
scenario could be that these shapes are dropped into the ocean and
collapse under the pressure of the deep. The artwork represents
the final stage of this transformation, trying to articulate the
active forces of the deep in a tangible and tactile way.
