Art is a good excuse to play. Play is a fun way to try on new realities. Exploring patterns and symmetry through abstraction presents an opportunity to look outside of a regular pattern of seeing. Relationships between underlying forces exemplify the inseparability of structure and narration. Structures and voids organize a lattice around these distinctions and connections.

Flame worked borosilicate glass
2021
5 interlocking tetrahedra, constructed by arranging 30 identical pieces of 6mm borosilicate glass rod. Marbles were joined to the 20 vertices to accentuate the reflections inside the structure. Using glass allows light to bounce around the interior, highlighting the beautiful chiral space within.

Tristix Knot, Link, and Unknot

Flame worked borosilicate glass

A knot, link, and unknot. 3 different ways to connect the ends of 12 rods in a simple left-handed tristix arrangement. Non-intersecting cylinder packing arrangements present a wide variety of problems that can make for enjoyable puzzles. Using a small propane and oxygen torch, the ends of borosilicate glass rods were joined to neighbors using twists or half loops. The network of glass creates a dynamic interaction of light and shadows.
