I find mathematics to be incredibly beautiful and exciting. I believe that this feeling comes from the interplay of observing that which is expected together with elements of surprise or incongruity. I try to create the same feelings through mathematical art pieces through the use of calming symmetries used in tandem with free form shapes.

This laser cut rhombic triacontahedron was assembled from ten identical tabbed pieces. I conjecture that this is the smallest number of congruent flat pieces that will allow for assembly tabs. Finding solutions to the ill-defined polyhedral decomposition problem of which net pieces allow for assembly tabs is important for efficient design of laser-cut solid models.
