Statement

Clarity – Lightness – Reduction My artistic ambition is to uncover the inherent beauty of mathematical concepts. It is at the interface of math and art, at the point where digital and analog media meet, that artistic magic manifests itself. At that point one does not need to appreciate or understand mathematics to find the beauty and harmony in it. My art concepts are realized as paintings, fine art prints, sculptures, and mobiles. My art feeds itself from the interaction between math, geometry and artistic elements such as light, colors, arrangement, forms, and space. It strives for a clarity that touches the soul. Thereby it goes beyond mathematics and shows an aesthetic warmth and poetry.

Additional info

The artwork shows two series of hexagons whose side lengths are Fibonacci numbers. One series of hexagons is spreading out like a wave front originating at the lower left corner. The second series is an apposition of hexagons from (almost) the lower left corner to the top right. The eye is in a constant dilemma between following one or the other series. The hexagon has the rare property that the length of each of the three diagonals is twice the sidelength. This allows to inscribe H(n-1) and H(n-2) into Hn, which beautifully shows the nature of the Fibonacci sequence. Moreover, the second series of hexagons illustrates the well-known formula that the sum of all Fibonacci numbers up to n is equal to the Fibonacci number F(n+2) minus 1.
