Statement

Using common materials and recycled objects, I try to find new ways of combining simple shapes into mathematically inspired works of art. Most of my creations are based on polyhedra models and are described in several Bridges papers. .

Separate and together, a rectification hierarchy

A mobile connecting four related objects in a delicate, constantly changing balance. Three polyhedra models are built with interlocking wood pieces: octahedron (rectified tetrahedron, 6 pieces), cuboctahedron (rectified octahedron, 12 pieces), and rhombicuboctahedron (rectified cuboctahedron, 24 pieces). The doubling pattern and the construction method with pieces that correspond to two polyhedra edges generalizes to any such rectification sequence. The large, central component of the mobile combines all three models in a nested, three-layer structure. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. I am grateful to Ioana Browne for laser cutting the wood pieces and for many useful discussions about this project.
