Tasha Pruitt
Tasha’s inspiration for various expressions in visual art is driven by
nature, science, travel, the human experience, and the wonder of the
cosmos. Her participation in the collaboration Mathemalchemy has
expanded her views and practices in making art. She values the
infinity of knowledge and is a student of life. She has worked with
countless talented creators along the way. In addition, her process is
informed by artists of various disciplines, including musicians,
visual artists, storytellers, scholars, fashion designers, tattoo
artists, and chefs (to name more than a few.) She uses those skills
with honor and relishes continuing the learning process daily while
passing along the knowledge absorbed.
Untitled Torus is a 2D representation of a 3D torus carved into
the wood but appearing convex. The 3D effect is apparent whether
you view the piece right-side up, upside-down, or on either of its
sides. In this representation, the geometric shape appears solid
and segmented simultaneously. I find the torus shape to be both
calming and exhilarating; the curves and the movement are
captivating. I am especially fond of its optical illusion and the
contradiction of simplicity and complexity.
