Statement

Paper is my medium. By folding and twisting I transform paper rectangles (squares and the others) into small modules with spirals playing important role in my artworks. I prefer “alive spirals” that work, fight and cooperate, so I have never used glue to join modules. I have chosen the regular polyhedra structures for my works, essential for visual effect, long life and physical stability. In 2015-18 I realized an art project MAP (Math Art Paper) – the series of 16 exhibitions of my artworks at the Mathematics and Computer Science Department at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

Artworks

This is a Smooth Bucky Ball Spirals join small folded pieces into a strong final form with two levels. They form an inner level and work against gravity, remaining parts form a surface level that decides about a shape and a texture of my artwork. I reduce number of folds and try to leave symmetry away. But I still depend on geometric structures, mostly polyhedra.

This is a Sharp Snub Cube. A spectator may admire spiral twisting around each other, arcs, convex and concave surfaces. Or explore deeper a geometric structure. Internal beauty of shapes derived from flat piece of paper and geometric concepts may be discovered only if the artwork is reinterpreted again.
