In the Department of Mathematics from the School of Sciences of
Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), we have developed in the
course "Escher: Geometry and Art", various phases of the mathematical
art of this designer. "Snakes" was Escher's last work, where a C3
rosette is combined with an Escherian interpretation of Henri
Poincare’s hyperbolic disk.
In the series "asymmetric symmetries", we combine several techniques
of digital art. Starting with friezes, rosettes or wallpapers, and
after the image deformation with a Roman Style mosaic, a Droste effect
is applied in order to generate the final artwork.
In the picture asimetries simetrics 2 we starting with a rosette D5 made on Java Kali, after the image deformation mosaic with Gimp, a Droste effect and vertical symmetry is applied in order to generate the final artwork.
In the picture asimetries simetrics 1 we starting with a wallpaper made on Java Kali, after the image deformation mosaic with Gimp, a Droste effect is applied in order to generate the final artwork. You can observe four congruences of 180 degrees of turn.
