Statement

I like to crochet hyperbolic surface sculptures in either white or shades of red/orange/purple/yellow that gives intensity. White allows for light to make nice shadows. Color stripes also emphasize the curvy shapes.

The Wikipedia entry for sphere eversion (smoothly turning a sphere inside out) features a video. This video depicts an intermediate state of the sphere with two opposing disks removed (a cylinder) self intersecting. That has been the inspiration for this piece. The self intersections happen because the boundary regions of the cylinder are hyperbolic.
