Statement
Art is a good excuse to play. Play is a fun way to try on new realities. Exploring patterns and symmetry through abstraction presents an opportunity to look outside of a regular pattern of seeing. Relationships between underlying forces exemplify the inseparability of structure and narration. Structures and voids organize a lattice around these distinctions and connections.
Films
Polystix are arrangements of non-intersecting prisms related through cubic symmetry. The family polystix includes: tetrastix, hemistix, tristix, and hexastix. The name polystix was given to these structures in “The Symmetries of things” 2008, by Conway, Burgiel, and Goodman-Strauss. Polystix arrangements are used to develop and describe structures in: mathematics, biology, crystallography, puzzle design, and art. A short animation of polystix by Anduriel Widmark 2022.
