Statement
I am curious about quasicrystals and how they might form in Nature. I use my lifelong experience as an artist and deep love of geometry to ask visual questions. Penrose tiling correlates with the structure of quasicrystals and continues to provide a rich source for my inquiry.

Decagon Depth Perception
25 x 38 cm
Handpainted acrylic ink on mylar, digitally manipulated.
2018
I made drawings by hand over a 4,000-rhomb patch of P3 tiling and combined them digitally. I used graphite to outline identical configurations of ten rhombs set within a regular decagon, and colored ink to code their orientations within the tiling. I call these configurations of rhombs 'decagon drums' and shaded them to look like objects with real depth. In making these drawings I learned that decagon drums cover a P3 tiling leaving only star-shaped voids.
