I love to fold origami Kusudama balls. This has given me much joy and relaxation. It probably also was influenced by my liking abstract algebra while in college. I am fascinated by the many different and beautiful variations in creating these balls and how the patterns on the origami paper impact the visual effect of the outcome.

Dodecahedron Variations and Transitions
76.0 x 60.0 x 60.0 cm
origami paper, wire, thread
2023
The nine Kusudama balls were made over the last couple of years. They are variations of the dodecahedron (the basic component is the pentagon), executed in a variety of techniques, straight pentagonal faces, and some with cut off corners, creating triangular faces (thus transitioning to the icosahedron). There are also twists, giving rise to rose shaped blossoms.
The presentation is in form of a mobile with 8 wires. A position of the mobile represents a point on the 8-dimensional torus $$S^1 \times S^1 \times ... \times S^1.$$
