Statement

We are students taking the 'Molecular Aesthetics' course, which is a general education course held by Professor Bih-Yaw Jin at National Taiwan University. This course teaches us how to treat molecules as artwork by creating hand-made models during the class.

Our goal was to create a cuboctahedron-like model using eight triangular tubes made from beads that interlocked with each other. During the designing process, the simulated models that our TA, Hou-Hsun, provided have been very helpful in our project. The stability and rigidity of the structure depended on the presence of all eight tubes. To achieve a natural turning motion of the tubes, we strategically placed pentagons and heptagons at appropriate positions to create positive and negative curvature. We used black and white beads to enhance the clarity of the entire structure.
