I like to think that making these things in this way results in an interesting, compelling and fun way that appeals to young and old alike. And, in a sense, is a friendly dynamic way for a general audience to not be intimidated by math or geometry and to be inspired to learn more, just as I've done. At the same time, unlocking the beautifully mysterious world that is math can't be put into simple words or phrases. Seeing is believing, I guess.

This object was created using a more robust folding technique related to origami using a hammer and chisel to create the folds. Its seed geometry is that of an icosidodecahedron. In this instance, the pentagonal faces making up the dodecahedron of the object are assembled from five convex shallow apex tetrahedra. The twenty icosahedral faces are left as voids. Using the hardware cloth makes for an additional level of moire effect visual intrigue--- a viewer is able to "see through" the skeletal symmetry of the object.
