Statement

Tessellation is one of the best ways to express the mathematical nature of shapes and spaces. We have pursued tessellation designs of shapes and spaces, using familiar shapes like animals to be seen by a wide range of people. More recently, we focus on applying tessellation designs to reveal the hidden properties of the objects around us, such as origami and daily necessities.

This work represents an attempt to further expand the regular division of animals patterns that M.C. Escher pioneered. Origami tessellation is used as a method to push the regular division grid on the plane to three dimensions. Animal motives are designed to fit the fundamental domain of origami tessellations, such as Miura-ori and Waterbomb folding. Origami tessellation usually involves meticulous work, but this work achieves simultaneous printing of animal patterns and crease processing for ease of folding.
