Statement

From early childhood on, I was interested in nature. Later, I learned that nature, has structures and patterns, that may be seen or invisible to the naked eye. This developed into a passion, to explore patterns in nature. The insight I have gained, underlie conceptual framework for the body of my work. As an artist, I aim to bridge the disciplines of art and mathematics and metaphorically represent the concepts to create art.

Interweaving Patterns

45 x 30 cm

ink pen

2010

This math/artwork is an aesthetic design using the concept of self-similarity. There are multiple units that combine to create interweaving patterns. The shape can become a very complex pattern as the simple shape is repeated on different scales from large to small. The structure consists of interweaving rhythms that change spatial locations as they weave in and out from concave to convex. The individual hand drawn ink dots are clustered, to create a texture that visually becomes dimensional. The composition consists of separate units that are combined so as to generate a visual movement. The same shape is also flipped and reflected in order to provide visual variety. Now framed, 20.50"x14.50"x1.25", not prior shown in exhibitions.
