Statement

Swing 2.0 is a ten-minute quartet that was presented as a work in progress in 2024 at Garter Lane Arts Centre and The Mac. The piece is currently in development for a feature length performance. Swing 2.0 strives to create a powerful, feminine embodiment of maths in motion by experimenting with time and the power between the dancer and the score. It aims to identify how we can bring the subjectivity of the dancers to something so linear. Failure reveals their humanity as their movement technique becomes lost and frantic. This short film is a small on screen representation of the interdisciplinary nature of maths and dance. For creating work I follow a particular choreographic process using a mathematic score pulled from a programming software. I develop this numeric score into movement vocabulary, spatial patterns and dancer relationships.

Swing 2.0 is a ten-minute quartet experimenting with time, the power between the dancer and the score by taking on the idea of a pendulum swing. The piece aims to create a powerful, feminine embodiment of maths in motion. Swing 2.0 experiments with using a strict mathematic score and identifying how we can bring the subjectivity of the dancers to something so linear. Failure reveals their humanity as their movement technique becomes lost and frantic. The variations of speed in the sound challenge the power dynamic between the score and the dancer.
