Statement
I seek patterns to make sense of my world. Some of these I choose to interpret as visual images. Occasionally I am able to develop means to summon these images into physical form as well. My piece is based on what I call “squiggles” (as described in my 2023 Bridges Conference paper Physical Representations of Polygon, Wedge, and Arc Squiggles). Many of them have properties which enable me to incorporate them into rotationally symmetric patterns, and they translate easily into physical structures which can be realized through crochet, tatting, paper-folding, and other means.
Artworks
“Manipulation: Collage” is a merged image of a group of rotationally-symmetric patterns. I created them by digitally copying, reflecting and modifying physical “squiggles”, which I made using crocheting, tatting, or beading.
