We evolved on a spherical ecosystem.
This video shows a geometrical transformation from a disk to a square to a hyperbolic surface to a sphere. I wrote all the code from scratch in vanilla Javascript, including 3D geometry and particle physics. It was recorded in real-time on a Macbook using ScreenFlow.
It incorporates a 2D particle system that is projected onto a 3D disk. The particles swirl about the center of the disk. The disk morphs into a square using a "squircle" algorithm inspired by Chamberlain Fong. The square then morphs into a 3D hyperbolic surface causing opposite corners of the warped square to meet at the two poles. The particles are gradually transported to the sphere surface in a spiral pattern.
The background is a rendering of the divisor plot pattern (divisorplot.com), duplicated and panned in opposite directions.
