Statement

Megan Li enjoys thinking about novel mathematical problems and analytical philosophy. She likes to doodle and crochet while listening to others talk about interesting ideas. She also loves teaching, whether it be gymnastics, computer science, logic, or mathematics. Yongheng Zhang enjoys making mathematical animations using computers. After hearing from Megan about the curious dynamics of passing one portal through the other, he wonders if it could also be used as a model to explain conundrums in other subjects.

Watch

The behavior of a dynamical system is dictated by the ambient geometry. When the glued parts of the underlying topological space also have their own dynamics, things would become more interesting, and even paradoxical. PORTOPOLOGY, a stop motion animation, inspired by Portal/Portal 2 and other games and concepts, is an initial exploration of this idea.
