Statement

Game Theory is the first film in my ongoing project exploring narratives where mathematics is not an incidental theme, but the driving force behind the plot. This initiative brings together mathematicians and filmmakers in a collaborative effort to create works that lie at the intersection of art and exposition, storytelling and public engagement. A detailed interview about this project—and my broader ideas on mathematics and cinema—was published by Divulgamat, a platform of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society. Watch

Game Theory is a short narrative film where mathematics is not only a theme, but the driving force of the plot. Amid a viral apocalypse, a mathematician and a medical doctor are confined to a remote country house. Facing inevitable death, they decide to determine the timing of their own end through a final match of the ancient game of NIM. The mathematical theory of NIM plays a pivotal role in the film's resolution.
