Statement

I received my BFA from Texas State in 2016 and most of my work dealt with social and political issues. Around this time I became more interested in mathematics (having learned it was far more interesting than any math teacher I had ever let it on to be) and started bringing it into my work more. I have really enjoyed trying to overlap what has become two loves in my life. Mathematics and art are so intertwined that it's hard to point at any artwork and say it has nothing to do with math. Yet at the same time it can be a challenge making mathematical works that aren't just taking a photo of something "mathy". I am giving a talk about the link between math and photography during the Special Session on Mathematics and the Arts II at 8:30am.

Additional info

This piece is from a series where I explored a world without written language. Specifically, what would "paperwork" be like? Marriage License shows what that document would look like in this world. An abstraction of two beings that are unique, strange, and infinite on their own becoming forever intertwined, symbolized by linked Möbius strips. I am giving a talk about the link between math and photography during the Special Session on Mathematics and the Arts II and will be talking about the math that goes into making a piece like this. I will have signed and numbered prints that I will be giving away to the audience as well. Monday 8:30am Room 143A, Convention Center
