Statement

My primary field and training is in the visual arts. As a practicing artist and educator I have often found delight in those areas in which art and mathematics intersect. Historically this intersection begins, of course, with Brunelleschi's invention of linear perspective and reaches a modern peak in the work of M.C. Escher. I am perpetually inspired by the design possibilities in the tradition of Islamic patterns, and enjoy experimenting with derivations based on those principles.
