Statement

I have always been fascinated by the intersection of art and mathematics, particularly in the tangible creation of work. I like to take an interesting mathematical concept and create something physical and beautiful out of it from scratch; in this way, I can more deeply understand both the mathematics and the artistic process.

Shifting Heptagon

Museum board, thread

2025

When I first began creating string art, I noticed the intrinsic connection it had with mathematics and knew I wanted to pursue a project linking the two. This piece is a string art construction based on a regular seven-sided polygon, or heptagon, in which each edge is subdivided into equal intervals and connected according to a three-step rule: J(3,5,1), which represent the three different “jump” lengths and is illustrated by the shifting colors of the blue, green and yellow thread.
