Statement

I like to investigate the connections between various schools of knotcraft both traditional and modern. Science, math, and other textile arts get thrown into the mix where appropriate. Symmetry, geometry, and physics are foundational if hidden aspects of non-theoretical knotwork. It is always particularly pleasing to me when the mathematical elements of a project step forward to take centre stage.

Additional info

Challenged to create "anything" with paracord, I considered the fun colour patterns in various sizes in my collection and decided the thing to do would be to use those various sizes in something Escher-inspired, perhaps a hyperbolic tiling? While exploring various tilings, seeking something where the growth rate was perhaps more sedate, it was not long before I found Robert Fathauer's web site and Tessellations book. Six-Fold Infinite Rings was the perfect inspiration for my paracord rendition. To select a knot to instantiate for the rings, I turned to Scott Hall's Fourier decomposition based CircleMat knot calculator. For it's balance of visual complexity and cord usage requirements, I settled on the 3 lobed Warlow 2 knot.
