In my free time I create and sew unique mathematical geometrical toys for children 5 years old or older. Together with the mathematical institute of the University in Göttingen, I developed the "Kindergarten Koffer" - a suitcase with different puzzles: 8 mathemagic cubes, 1 Pentomino, 1 Sudoku, the magnetic dodecagon and the Maths Pie. I made many spheres with different tilings on the surface, and edge models from polyhedra. My hobby is sewing stellated polyhedra, quilts and other robust, elastic, haptic and soft toys/puzzles!
My circular quilt: "Da staunst Du - 29 Bauklötze!" was shown in Germany during the year of math in 2008. I have enjoyed the bridges conference in Jyväskylä, Waterloo, Stockholm, Linz, Aalto and Halifax.
Artworks
2023, I was inspired by Lisa Borden's lectures on the crafts and traditional skills of the Mi'kmaw people and Dr. Laura Taalman's study with color effect yarns. My grandma Emma Kraft would have been 100 years old this year in February. She knitted many perfect and durable socks and taught me a lot. Sockomat is my way of preserving Oma's knowledge. I can remember how to carry out the complex steps involved in knitting socks. After each round, usually 24 rounds per section, I move the clothespin one Nikolaus house away on the Sockomat board. The socks are calculated. Just count it. In my family, Nikolaus traditionally brings new socks on December 6. So this time I have a special gift for Oma's descendants as a bridge between past and future.
