Statement
As a sculptor of constructive geometric forms, my work deals with patterns and relationships derived from classical ideals of balance and symmetry. Mathematical yet organic, these abstract forms invite the viewer to partake of the geometric aesthetic.
Artworks
Inspired by the graphic art and algorithmic methods of the Swiss painter Hans Hinterreiter, I have remixed various of his grid constraints, non-linear transformations, and color schemes into new combinations. This triptych illustrates three examples of his warping methods, with 0, 1, or 2 singularities along the circumference. Hinterreiter described straightedge-and-compass procedural methods of design in the mid-twentieth century, before computers were available, yet they evoke modern questions of originality and authorship that have come to the fore in our age of AI art. These designs are new, yet were fully specified with every detail chosen from among the billions of options that Hinterreiter offers in his procedural methods.
