Statement

My name is Elly Richaerts from The Netherlands, near Eindhoven, and my passion is painting. Fourteen years ago I changed my realistic painting style into abstraction/constructivism. The leading course was “the Stijl” movement. It had to become a new accessible visual language, independent of reality, abstract, geometric and harmonious. With the ideas of “De Stijl” movement in my baggage, I started a painterly quest for the most basic constructivist possibilities that can be derived from the clean lines and angular surfaces in Mondrian's work. I play with elements of the geometric and isometric sources and I create a new painterly imaginary visual language with it.

My inspiration is "de Stijl" movement. I play with elements of the geometric and isometric sources and I create a new painterly imaginary visual language with it. It had to become a new accessible visual language, independent of reality, abstract, geometric and harmonious. One of the most radical developments in the field of art, in the 1920s, was the birth of modernism as a new art movement. For painting this meant going back to basics with clean lines and surfaces and geometric forms in primary colours, supplemented with black, white and grey. No green to avoid any association with reality. In this way I created a new imaginaire visual language.
