Statement
Jesse Agten's practice ranges from colourful tensile installations the size of a house, to intricately crafted objects that fit the palm of your hand. He uses fabric, wood, synthetic materials, and treasures found in nature to create his pieces. The journey inward, and the need to connect with both the self and others, lie at the heart of his work. Dialogues with Arabic tessellation and a love for Platonic solids serve as metaphoric bridges through which these concepts are visually expressed. His process starts with visualizations and sketches, which he further develops in 3D programs, mostly SketchUp and Blender. He places deep value on the tactile process of crafting and refining objects by hand.

'Flow' aims to converge geometry with the organic qualities of the natural world. By giving this dodecahedron-based object curved legs and rounded edges, it takes on a humane softness. 'Flow' invites a personal connection, as its naturalistic approach offers warmth and approachability to the perceived rigidity of this sharply pointed Platonic solid. The sculpture is a play on the small stellated dodecahedron and is inspired by Rinus Roelofs work on double layer polyhedra. Each pentagon is suspended, floating in space as the lateral edges curve around one another, dodging each other, creating this intriguing shape.
