Statement

I seek patterns to make sense of my world. Some of these I choose to interpret as visual images. Occasionally I am able to develop means to summon these images into physical form as well. Then sometimes, I quietly feed those physical forms back into my creative chaos to see what else may emerge.

Additional info

The print is part of my Manipulation series. These involve images of physical “squiggles” which have been edited, reflected and rotated to form geometric patterns. A detailed description of the geometry of these squiggles can be found in https://archive.bridgesmathart.org/2023/bridges2023-469.pdf. In this particular case, I have crocheted a squiggle around a line of sequins, photographed it, then used many copies of the image to form a 15-fold rotationally symmetric pattern. A crochet sample of the type used to create this picture is mounted on a printed base which shows the geometry of the squiggle that it is meant to represent.
