Statement

I am a mathematician active in the field of discrete differential geometry. Next to research, I am interested in investigating connections between mathematics and the arts with a focus on geometric and symmetric structures and patterns. Especially, I am interested in aperiodic tilings. Next to creating illustrations digitally, I enjoy handcrafting examples by making them from paper, wood, thread or color.

Five Linked Penrose Tilings

50.0 x 50.0 cm

Coloured paper

2025

The Starfish-IvyLeaf-Hexagon tiling is related to the Penrose rhombus tiling (P2). This kind of tiling can be created by N. G. de Brujin's cut-and-project method. This work shows the edges of five intervoven Starfish-IvyLeaf-Hexagon tilings, which can be generated by a new extension of N. G. de Brujin's cut-and-project method. Over- and under-crossings are entirely defined by the projection method. The five tilings are cut from coloured paper and then linked into each other by cutting and gluing.
