Izzy Snyder is an artist and user interface designer from Brattleboro, VT, US. Her main mediums are printmaking, digital illustration, animation, collage, and algorithmic art, and she has an academic background in computer science and studio art. She enjoys playing with tiles in her work, which she often uses to explore themes of interconnectedness, transformation, and repetition.

This piece is a screen-printed set of two tiles that can be interchangeably laid out to create a scene that goes on forever and ever. The edges of the tiles align with an offset of half of an edge length, with elements popping off the bottom right and being completed on the top left of a tile. Inspired by Richard Scarry’s Busy, Busy Town, tile puzzles, and scenes from my home town, the animal figures walk infinitely on sidewalks and streets, interacting with each other in different ways depending on which edge they are adjacent to. This piece aims to tell a compelling and humorous story, using the interchangeable, cyclical nature of a repeated tiling to add meaning and variety.
