Statement

My art is inspired by polyhedral structures, sometimes very complex, with hundreds of faces. I design and make out of paper small modules that correspond to vertices or faces, or edges of a polyhedron. These modules are joined with flaps twisted into spiral shape. Sometimes the mathematical structure of my work is easily visible, sometimes it doesn't exhibit outside, but for sure it exists inside. I am sure that without mathematics my works would not exist. For me the mathematics is a way of thinking, a way of seeing the world, a way to understand the universe. l always arrange paper into a mathematical structure with a passion for seeing, understanding, and creating!

When I designed and folded green octagonal forms I recognized that I did not know how to join them into a stable structure. Finally I used a geodesic cube structure and replaced selected quadrilaterals by the octagonal form. Flexibility of spirals makes possible such hybridization. The work combines elements from completely different stories. Spirals I use to join modules into a final form give a lot of flexibility. Topological congruence of a group of modules in the inner part is sufficient to replace these modules and graft green rosettes into a geodesic cube. These “scions” underline the symmetry of the work, a little bit hidden behind the floral form of the “rootstock”.
