Statement

In my mathematical art I seek to reify the abstract, to make mathematical concepts and shapes available to touch, to trace, to twist and turn. To create physical artifacts meant for interaction to bring the complex closer and make the abstract concrete. Over many years, I have primarily worked with computer assisted techniques - laser cutting and 3d printing, and I am fascinated by art that hovers on the edge of the algorithmic. In this work, I am starting to explore the enumerating joy of some of Sol LeWitt's artwork and directions it can be expanded and elaborated.

Additional info

Following in the footsteps of Sol LeWitt's "Variations of Incomplete Open Cubes" from 1974, this is a complete survey of the incomplete open octahedra. Sharing the same symmetry group action - since cubes and octahedra are dual - the structure of the octahedron generates a total of 185 configurations following the construction principles in LeWitt's original piece: connected strict subsets of the edges in a wireframe of the solid, up to rotational equivalences.
