Statement
For seven years, origami has been central to my interdisciplinary journey of art and mathematics. Using just a single, uncut sheet of paper, I transform a flat surface into intricate 3D models to explore the vast potential of a humble material. While every fold obeys strict mathematical rules, these very constraints actually fuel unique creative freedom. Inspired by artists like Madonna Yoder and Timur M, I experiment with complex tessellations and twists to capture the beauty of three-dimensional space.

Gardenia is an origami tessellation containing seven flowers. Each flower is on a tileable six unit regular hexagonal footprint which is aligned with each other in the design process to form an indefinite pattern on a single plane. The entire tessellation is folded on an equilateral triangle grid to enable this tiling. Furthermore, at the center of each flower is a regular hexagonal twist which brings the paper to a center point and allows for a symmetric swirl in the center of each flower. The twists allow for six axes of symmetry and creates a visually appealing result.
