Statement
To understand the title of my work it is necessary to define what is a derivative of Math and a derivative of Art. The derivative of Math is an art with mathematical content. The derivative of Art is a mathematical theory describing an art. Finally, the third derivative of Math is an art inspired by math inspired by art inspired by math. And it is how the series of graphics were created. Krystyna Burczyk’s Twirls exhibited for many years at Bridges have strong mathematical content, my paper presented at this Bridges conference is a mathematical description of her works. And finally the graphic presented here results from this investigations.

I created this work by accident. When I wrote a software for the investigation of Twirls created by Krystyna Burczyk I made an error. And this error revealed a tangle of lines earlier hidden in generated pictures. The balance between the symmetry and the apparent chaos touched something in my soul. Then I created more graphics that reveal hidden beauty of twirl lines, already on purpose. The presented work is the first in this series of graphics titled “The Third Derivative of Math”
