In all my work I deal with the manipulation of surfaces; they are overlain, enfolded into themselves, cut or even tied in knots. I explore the play between surface and space. I like to provoke the viewers to engage with the work and often I encourage them to handle the work or participate in the making. Paper as an enfolded surface is the primary material; I use it to print, to draw, I fold it into 3D modular units which I sew together to form sculptural works, I fold it and cut it, and sometimes I make stencils for ceramics. Many of the works can exist in multiple states and they can radically change according to how they are displayed such as leporello books, brainteaser limited editions or flexible modular sculptures.

Leaves and Stars
19.5 x 59.5 x 2.0 cm
Hand-folded paper and thread
2026
"Leaves and Stars" is a three-dimensional, double-sided flexible sculpture with two different three-dimensional tiling patterns on opposite sides.
I am using a single modular unit in repetition to create complex patterns.
A black and white printed strip of paper is hand-folded into a triangular dipyramid to create a module.
Due to the printed black line along a white line, this module, once folded, forms a motif on its surfaces.
Sewing together hundreds of these modules in different orientations, I create flexible structures with double sided three-dimensional tiling patterns.
"Leaves and Stars" uses Johnson solid triangular dipyramids folded from flat strips of paper to create double-sided, 3D tessellation patterns.
